Campus Description

Our campus in the Lace Market is made up of a number of buildings — the largest and most impressive being the iconic Adams Building.

This former lace mill from the 1800’s was once the centre point of the UK’s world renowned lace manufacturing industry and you can really feel the history of the place as you walk through the building. Thomas Adams who designed the building and ran the lace warehouse was a kind and conscientious boss, by Victorian standards! He built a chapel in the building for workers to participate in morning worship and the original stained glass windows are still there today.

Today the building is home to Fashion & Textiles, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Hair and Beauty, some of our Access to HE courses and our HE centre.

The building itself is some seven floors and in our fashion and textiles rooms right at the top of the building, you can enjoy some amazing views of the city. Old winding staircases give the building a real distinctive feel and our students tell us it makes them feel like they are in Hogwarts!

Within the Adams Building is our 16 Stoney Street campus and over the road is our art and design centre, housed within another lace mill at 25 Stoney Street.
