Here’s just a selection of previous students who have had a rewarding time both at our College and after their time with us:
Robert Lindsay is one of our most notable and celebrated former acting students – carving out a career for himself that has made him a very famous Nottingham College alumni.
After leaving Gladstone Boys’ School in Derbyshire as a child, Robert enrolled on a drama course at our Clarendon campus…It is here that he acquired the essential skills needed to pursue his exciting and varied career.
The acclaimed star of stage and screen has enjoyed huge roles including playing the character “Ben Harper” in hit BBC sitcom My Family and “Wolfie Smith” in Citizen Smith, where he has gained increased popularity. He has also had other prominent appearances with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in musical theatre.
To commemorate his great achievements and ability as an actor, Robert has won a BAFTA, a Tony Award and three Olivier Awards for his work.
Since becoming a credible star in the UK however, Robert has not forgotten his roots and has frequently been back to our College to impart his knowledge and expertise in the acting industry.
Wes was a business studies student and a member of the College’s Football Education Academy. He was invited for trials at the club whilst at College and after playing 352 games for Forest in 10 years, he joined Leicester in January 2012.
In May 2016, Wes captained the team to an amazing Premier League triumph!
England hockey player Helen Richardson-Walsh was a sport student at the College in 1999/2000.
She made her England debut in 1999 and has been a member of England and GB squads at World Cups, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games amassing over 100 caps for her country.
She won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and topped it with a Gold medal, as part of the successful GB Olympic squad in 2016!
In 2017 she was awarded an MBE for Services to Hockey.
Whilst Craig studied with us, he completed his NVQ level 2 Food and Preparation certificate. He also completed further qualifications in Food and Wine Service, Basic Food Hygiene and Intermediate Food Hygiene.
Craig now has over 15 years of invaluable experience and one career highlight includes catering for the British Sailing Team at the Olympic and Paralympic games, in 2012.
Craig has since gone on to start his own private dining business, CraigFloateChef. He has travelled the UK and has worked in some remote locations, to offer both corporate and private dining experiences. He is revered by his customers due to the quality and detail of his work.
Jenny was a student on the BTEC National Diploma Sport & Exercise Science course from 2003-5. A talented sportswoman, she soon made her mark in local cricket before gaining an international call-up.
Now a regular member of the England squad, in 2009 Jenny helped the England Women’s Cricket team win the World Cup.
Jenny was awarded an MBE for Services to Cricket in 2014.
In July 2017, Jenny was part of the England team to win the Women’s World Cup again beating India in the final.
Fazane Malik, studied a BTEC in Fashion at Nottingham College, which led to a four year fashion degree at the University of Derby and ultimately the launch of her very own fashion brand.
She launched her fashion label ‘Fazane Malik’ in partnership with her brother in 2012. Fazane has a wealth of experience under her belt, having worked at 69 Magazine, a UK-based fashion magazine, and two top Australian fashion designers; Akira Isogawa and Gwendolyne.
She also won a six-month mentoring programme with Fashion Angel, which was sponsored by ASOS Marketplace, competing against more than 400 other sellers to win a place on the programme.
Fazane also has a number of awards to her name, including the Midlands Independent Designer of the Year 2013/14 and Runner Up Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 at the Nottingham Post Women In Business Awards.
Glenn studied at Nottingham College in 1998, where he initially studied Music but later switched to Performing Arts.
After he graduated from Nottingham College, Glenn went on to begin his professional training as a dancer, attending the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance. His professional career includes performances in the Nutcracker and Swan Lake, where he toured extensively in the UK, Japan and South Korea. He has also toured internationally - dancing signature roles with choreography by Hans Van Manen, Inbal Pinto, Paul Lightfoot, Mats Ek, Sol Leon, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, William Forsythe and many others.
Early in January 2015, he found some rare down time and opted to spend it with Nottingham College offering his knowledge and experience to a lucky group of Foundation Degree Dance students.
Thomas Birch beat all odds of surviving an accident during his time as a Marine in Afghanistan. He suffered a severe head injury in an accident in his jeep in November 2006 and his chance of survival was touch and go.
Despite the seriousness of his injuries and the fact that he has no memory of his time in Afghanistan, Thomas learned to walk and talk again.
Thomas enrolled at the College in 2008 and completed level 2 and 3 Personal Trainer courses.
In 2009, he was named the Association of College’s (AoC) ‘Student of the Year’. Earlier in the year, he also picked up an national Adult Learner of the Year award.
Marcus became the fourth player from the College’s Football Education Academy to sign for a professional when he agreed a one-year deal at Blackburn Rovers in March 2008.
Striker Marcus was a student on our BFD Sport course when he was recommended to the Club by College tutor Pete Bell.
A great loss to the College team but another success for the College’s FPP. Marcus currently plays for Alfreton Town.
Notts defender Haydn was a Sport student at Nottingham College in 2008-2010.
He made his first-team debut in January 2012 and has since gone on to play over 100 games for the Magpies.
Haydn is currently playing for League Two Forest Green.
Colby was a Sport student with the college in 2013/14 and signed for Notts County after his course. He made four appearances in the English Football League with Notts County, before going on to have spells with Worcester City and Boston United. In July 2019, Colby signed a three-year contract with League One side Accrington Stanley.
