Area Introduction

If you would like a career working with and caring for animals, then these courses could be just what you’re looking for.

You will benefit from our specially designed animal science facilities, which are well-equipped for learning essential skills such as grooming, handling and caring for small animals.

You’ll find that our lecturers share your passion for animals and have many years of experience of working with them.

Over the years they have built up partnerships with many charities and organisations, like Stonebridge City Farm and Woodside Stables, so there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get out of the classroom on visits.

At Nottingham College, we have all the skills and knowledge that you need to have a successful career working with animals.

Our animal science courses will be a huge stepping stone to a range of employment and further study options.

There are a vast number of career options in the industry – whether you would like to be an Animal Carer, an Animal Welfare Officer, a Dog Groomer, a Farm Worker, a Horse Riding Instructor, a Kennel Assistant, a Park Ranger, a Veterinary Nurse or a Zoo Keeper – there are many choices available to you.

Employers within the animal science industry include animal charities, who may focus on welfare, training, rescue, conservation, rehoming or campaigning. Scientific organisations like pharmaceutical companies or medical research companies may employ graduates to care animals in laboratories. Zoos and sanctuaries are also common employers, as are international welfare organisations campaigning, fundraising and protecting animals worldwide.

Animal nutrition is a growing area with opportunities in animal health, feed development and sales. Local government and animal enforcement organisations employ graduates to protect the welfare of pets, livestock and leisure animals like those used for racing and riding.
