Course Introduction

This course is perfect if you are aged 19+ and want to progress to a higher level of study and ultimately to pursue a career in the sports industry.

You’ll learn about the different variables that influence sports science. The programme is structured through a range of units such as coaching, applied sports science and study skills that will help you be successful in your future degree studies. You’ll benefit from biomechanical and physiology labs, plus training and testing suites.

You can expect support from a personal tutor, who will guide you through your studies and support you with UCAS applications. You’ll also gain insight into studying on a university campus, which is great experience for your future education journey.

You must be aged 19 or over to apply for this course.

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9– 4 (A*– C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grades 9– 4 (A*– C) or equivalent, or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9–4 (A*–C) or equivalent. We would consider relevant work experience as a substitute for a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification.

It is not possible to study both GCSE English and Maths on this course.

Learning is assessed in a variety of methods to prepare you to study at university. This may include an extended essay, timed assessments under controlled conditions and report writing. Practical analysis and laboratories sessions are also included in the content.

Choose to follow with further study at degree level, such as the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching here at Nottingham College (which then allows for top-up to a full degree at university), or a related degree at university.

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of your Access to HE course. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

If you progress on to degree level study and complete a full degree, Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe. This means you do not have to repay it.
