Course Introduction

A Vehicle Damage Paint Technician works in the vehicle body repair sector of the motor industry. The role is to prepare, spray and finish vehicles that have been involved in collisions and other incidents in an efficient manner. The vehicles can include cars and light commercial vehicles.

This includes ensuring correct colour match and final finish to the company and customers exacting standards. This is usually within a collision repair workshop or smart repair workshops/mobile repair micro business and working alongside another fully qualified Paint Technician.

You will study both the theory and practical aspects of the following:

  • Applying various top coats and clear coats
  • Health and safety
  • Materials and tools
  • Paint mixing
  • Preparing and applying foundation materials to vehicles
  • Repairing paint defects
  • Tools and equipment

A residential programme is delivered at EMTEC’s Training Facility, in Ruddington, near Nottingham several times a year to complement the work-based learning the employer will provide.

Course Information

Apprenticeship in Vehicle Damage Paint Technician (Standard Level 3) - IMI Approved

Level 3
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement
  • You will also need 4 GCSEs at grades A* to C/9 to 4 or equivalent including English Language and Maths and a relevant Level 2 qualification. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.

Training is delivered via a block release programme at a dedicated Centre of Excellence Training Academy in Nottingham.

We partner with OEM supply chain to provide apprentices access to the latest technically advanced materials, provide knowledge and access competencies that participants can put into direct action in their workshops when returning from training.
