Engineering (Level 3 Technical Diploma) - Full-time

This qualification is for you if you are looking to start in the broad, advanced manufacturing and engineering sector in more specialised roles.

It covers a wide range of topics allowing you to experience the sectors skills requirements.

You will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:

• Engineering materials
• Electronics, control and instrumentation
• Mechanical structures and dynamics
• Manufacturing methods in engineering
• Engineering design
• Engineering mathematics and statistics
• Engineering workshop practice
• Innovation and new technologies
• Manufacturing engineering
• Robotics and automated manufacture.

There will also be selected units, which focus on the technical skills required within the engineering industry.

These include:

• Project management
• Automotive engineering
• Power and energy in engineering
• Aerospace engineering
• Rail engineering

You will study both the practical use and the underpinning knowledge of each subject, which may involve local employers providing real examples as part of the training.

It is expected that you will visit or have visits from employers who can provide demonstrations and talks on the industry, which may also be a relevant work placement with an employ.

We work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. You can expect lectures given by industry experts and employer input into projects and exercises.

If you're interested in progressing into University, we also offer A Level Maths alongside this course. This will be taught on site at Highfields. You will study AS Maths in your first year and A2 in your second year.

Aged 19 or over?

If you don't already hold a Level 3 qualification (equivalent to at least two A Levels, or a Level 3 vocational qualification), you can now study this course fully funded!

If you are aged 16-18 without having achieved a Level 3 qualification, you will also be eligible for full funding.
