Course Introduction
This course is perfect if you enjoy providing great customer service and you’d like a career in the aviation industry.
You’ll learn about:
- The aviation industry
- The importance of health and safety
- Meeting customer needs
- Air travel
- Handling air passengers
We offer a one-year BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and a two-year BTEC Diploma. Students choosing the one-year option can apply to top-up to the BTEC Diploma in just one further year of study.
You can expect industry experience and Nottingham College will help you to gain valuable experience on work placements that give you a real insight into the industry.
Aged 19 or over?
If you don't already hold a Level 3 qualification (equivalent to at least two A Levels, or a Level 3 vocational qualification), you can now study this course fully funded!
The Government’s new Free Courses for Jobs programme has created new opportunities for adults, aged 19 and over, to access fully funded full-time learning.

If you are aged 16-18 without having achieved a Level 3 qualification, you will also be eligible for full funding.
Course Information
Pearson BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Aviation Operations
You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grades 9–4 (A*–C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths, or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9–4 (A*–C).
You’ll complete scenario-based assessments and written assignments.
Choose to follow with further study on the Diploma course, or a foundation degree in tourism management, depending on the Diploma you choose.
Career paths include:
- Air cabin crew
- Airport ground staff
- Airport/airline management
Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
