Course Introduction

This course is perfect if you would like a career in the healthcare sector.

You will learn:

  • Human Growth and Development
  • Working in Health and Social Care
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Psychological Perspectives
  • Nutritional Health
  • Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
  • Genetics

You will develop academic skills (essay writing and Harvard referencing) alongside practical competence through attending a placement, 2 days a week, across a variety of healthcare settings such as care homes. As part of this, you will need a DBS check, which the college provide. A placement is a mandatory part of the course.

You can also expect a personal and social development session for 1 hour a week.

BTEC National Foundation Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Health Sciences)

Level 3

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language, Science and Maths – all of these must be grades 9-4. You can also gain a place by having a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9-4.

Students must be aged 16-18.

You will undertake internally assessed assignments and an externally assessed exam.

Upon successful completion of the one-year Foundation Diploma, you can move onto the Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies). To do this, you must complete all assignments to a good standard and ensure you have completed your placement hours. Going into year 2, this will allow you to gain UCAS tariff points needed for university and will allow you to study a range of courses at degree level within the health or social care field e.g. Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work.

During the course you will find out about career opportunities and get expert advice on your next steps for example, further study at Nottingham College, employment or higher education.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
