Course Introduction

The use of IT is becoming part of our everyday lives, from gaming and updating our CVs to looking at software to help run an office more efficiently, we all tend to use some form of technology to help us along the way. So having a qualification in IT puts you one step ahead when looking for employment.

This course is perfect if you want to develop valuable skills and knowledge across IT and general business, so you can go on to further study or even a job in IT or business.

You’ll learn key business and IT skills to prepare you for future college courses or the start of your career.

  • Spreadsheet software
  • Imaging software
  • Presentation software
  • Using email
  • Word processing software
  • Website software
  • Design software
  • Desktop publishing software
  • Setting up a system
  • Audio software
  • IT software fundamentals

You can expect to acquire the broad range of skills needed to help you thrive in the ever-expanding IT industry.

Course Information

Level 1 BTEC Introductory Certificate in IT and Business

Level 1

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3–1 (D–G), including English Language and Maths at grades 3–1 (D–G) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. You will also be asked to sit an initial assessment. The initial assessment must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we will find the right course for you.

You will be assessed through coursework, as there are no examinations, except for GCSEs/Functional Skills where applicable.

You could progress to:

  • ICT Systems Support (Level 2)
  • Information and Creative Technology (Level 2 BTEC First Certificate)

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
