Course Introduction

This course is perfect if you have an interest in Fashion, Design, Fashion Business or Textiles and want to explore your knowledge and skills in more depth while also learning a wide range of skills that are transferable to further education and employment.

You will study at the college with a diverse group of students guided by the expertise of our fashion tutors and specialist learning support.

This course is also ideal for students who have completed our Level 2 course and are internally progressing into a College Certificate to develop relevant industry skills.

While studying on this course there will be a focus on enhancing your skills and knowledge along with developing and gaining new skills, paired with preparing you for your future progression into further education or employment.

You will learn the different aspect of Fashion, Design, Fashion Business and Textiles through fun, exciting projects and activities in which you will work independently and in groups to complete the projects to a high standard. The practical sessions we offer will give you skills in research, drawing, design development, print making, 3d production and computer aided design.

We also work on briefs that incorporate brands that relate closely to the projects and help the students to build industry standard skills. We are also passionate as a college to get the students into the Nottingham community and the wider world, this may be through exciting trips/ visits and work experience relevant projects will support you to develop your broader skills in being organised, teamwork, communication, and career planning.

All students will continue weekly studies in Maths or English (functional skills or GCSE’s) as part of the programme of study, at a relevant level.

You can expect to learn in our bustling fashion studio which is based in the old lace lofts in the Adam’s Building, with hands-on work and research-based activities, our experienced and friendly tutors, technicians and support tutors will help you complete a range of creative projects and assignments and develop you specific interests in Fashion, Design, Fashion Business and Textiles.

Level 2

You’ll need Level 2 Pass grade in a relevant subject or equivalent in GCSE’s, including English Language or Maths at a grade 4 and above (C-A*) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification and you will also be asked to sit an Initial assessment. The initial assessment must show that you are ready to study English or Maths at Level 2. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we'll find the right course for you.

You will need to bring a folder of art work to your interview which can be from your GCSE coursework or work done in your own time. You are encouraged to showcase your interests and strengths. Please include examples of observation drawing in any media. You can bring sketchbooks, drawings and paintings, photographs, textile and fashion designs, 3D work and digital designs. At your interview tutors will look at your work and discuss it with you to guide you onto the appropriate course and level.

Assessment is based on practical tasks, projects and productions, supported by a record of written evidence.

You could progress onto Fashion and Textiles Level 3 or Fashion Business and Retail Level 3.
