Course Introduction

This course is perfect if you have an interest in Fashion, Textiles and Art and are wanting to learn, explore and develop your skills.

You will experience a supportive and encouraging learning environment with the expertise of a range of tutors and specialist learning support.

This course will suit individuals who want to build confidence in life skills and in study skills alongside a creative fashion and textiles exploration.

Throughout this course you will have four exciting projects with themes that you engage with to build your ideas and concepts. Within these projects you will learn a variety of aspects of fashion, textiles, art and design, gaining experience to bring your ideas to life. Your days at college will be broken up into practical sessions where you will learn about creative research, drawing and illustrations, design process, textile techniques, computer aided design and 3D production. Along with learning practical skills you will also gain broader skills such as; communication, teamwork, creative thinking, professionalism and organisation. All students will continue weekly studies of both English and Maths (Functional Skills or GCSE) as part of the programme of study.

You can expect to learn in our bustling fashion studio which is based in the Old Lace Lofts in the Adams Building. With hands-on work and research-based activities. A range of exciting research trips have been planned for the projects you will be engaging with for example; Sea life centre, Manchester Art Museum, Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Hall and many more place around Nottinghamshire.

Our experienced and friendly tutors, technicians and well- being tutors will support and guide you through creative assignment projects that will develop your specific interests within fashion, textiles and design.

Level 1

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3–1 (D–G), including English Language and Maths at grades 3-1 (D–G) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification and you will also be asked to sit an Initial assessment. The initial assessment must show that you are ready to study English and Maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we'll find the right course for you.

You will need to bring a folder of art work to your interview which can be from your GCSE coursework or work done in your own time. You are encouraged to showcase your interests and strengths. Please include examples of observation drawing in any media. You can bring sketchbooks, drawings and paintings, photographs, textile and fashion designs, 3D work and digital designs. At your interview tutors will look at your work and discuss it with you to guide you onto the appropriate course and level.

Assessment is based on practical tasks, projects and productions, supported by a record of written evidence.

Choose to follow with further study at Nottingham College on a Level 2 course in your chosen area.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
