Course Introduction

This course is perfect if you see yourself working as a fashion designer, textiles designer or a role in fashion business.

You’ll learn a range of fashion and Textile design skills including:

  • Basic pattern cutting and constructing
  • Fashion design processes
  • Textile techniques and fabric manipulation

You’ll learn a range of fashion business skills including:

  • Promotion
  • Branding
  • Merchandising

Developing creative designs from varied research will enable you to show imagination, experimentation and understanding of the fashion and textiles industries. Alongside your fashion and textiles designs you will learn about fashion business and promotion. The course gives you the opportunity to explore all areas of fashion design, textiles and fashion business allowing you to progress on to the level 3 Fashion Design or Fashion Business courses at Nottingham College.

You can expect to be challenged creatively but at the same time well-supported by expert tutors. There will be lots of opportunities to visit exhibitions, both locally and nationally. You’ll also take part in a yearly fashion show and exhibition, live project briefs and competitions.

You will develop employability skills in presenting your work, communicating with others, working within teams, exhibiting your work and problem solving.

Course Information

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Fashion

Level 2

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English Language and Maths – one of English Language or Maths must be grade 9–4 (A*–C). Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above.

You will also need a portfolio of work, demonstrating an interest in fashion.

Assessment is continuous and will consist of a portfolio of reports, presentations and creative projects plus a final major project at the end of the year.

Choose to follow with further study on a Level 3 programme in fashion and textiles, fashion business or art and design, or other related creative subjects.

You could also explore employment and apprenticeship opportunities in fashion, design, dressmaking, tailoring or fashion buying/marketing.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
