Course Introduction

If you love being in the kitchen and you’d like to develop your passion for food and customer service into a career this course is perfect for you!

You’ll learn the importance of health and safety in the kitchen by creating a range of dishes including savoury and sweet items. You will develop your communication and teamwork skills to work effectively both independently and in a team. You’ll research the UK and local hospitality industry and the different roles you’ll be able to take when you start out in industry.

You can expect to learn in our commercial-standard kitchens with tutors who have years of experience in the hospitality industry. This is a practical, hands-on course that will give you all the skills you need to start your career in this exciting and growing industry.

Course Information

Level 1 City & Guilds Certificate Introduction to the Hospitality Industry

Level 1

You’ll need 4 GCSEs grade 3 (D) or above including English language and maths or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. With this you will be asked to sit an initial assessment and this must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1.

Observation of work carried out in a realistic working environment in both the restaurant and kitchen and a demonstration of underpinning knowledge.

Choose to follow with one of our Level 2 programmes in professional cookery, or perhaps go into an apprenticeship within a restaurant, food court or hotel.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
