Course Introduction

This course is perfect if you have a passion for food, enjoy cooking and are looking develop your basic skills as a chef.

You’ll learn professional cookery skills across a range of dishes, whilst getting a good foundation knowledge of key ingredients, food theory, food hygiene and health and safety in a kitchen environment. You will also learn waitering, barista and bar skills in our brand new commercial restaurant in the heart of Nottingham at our City Hub campus.

You can expect lots of hands on practical learning in our industry-standard training kitchens. You’ll work with experienced chefs who will teach you the basics while letting you be creative with your food inventions and develop you towards your goals.

Course Information

Level 1 City & Guilds Diploma in Professional Chef

Level 1

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grades 9–4 (A*–C). Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above.

Assessment is through practical tests and written assignments and short-answer questions.

Choose to follow with further study onto our Level 2 programme for professional chefs or perhaps go into an apprenticeship or employment as a trainee/commis chef or assistant caterer.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
